Cut off a pattern the Nottingham machine room had already been using for its own aprons. Straight through the leg, five pockets, and the seat stitched three times because that is the seam that goes. Chalk, which will not stay chalk, and is better for it.

How it is cut

Sized on the waist with 8cm of room and a straight leg. Between two sizes, take the larger: there is no adjuster on this one.

Model is 5ft 11 with a 32in waist, wearing a M.

Everything here is cut relaxed, so the numbers below are your own measurements rather than the garment’s. Between two sizes, take the smaller one: it will still be roomy.

Where to put the tape

Chest.
Under the arms, around the fullest part, tape level and not pulled tight.
Waist.
Around the narrowest part of your middle, usually just above the navel.
Hip.
Around the fullest part, with your feet together.
